100 Fics That I Love #006

I have been horrible at LJ stuff for the last year. But it's the start of a brand new one and I want to start posting again. I really have been writing (though not as much as I should), but I haven't been able to finish anything in longer than I care to think about.

Recently, I got started thinking about something else I've yet to finish: 100 Fics That I Love.

Well, I'm going to change that. I may not have spent enough time writing the last year and a half, but boy have I done a lot of reading. And I'm going to start sharing some of my favorite fics with all of you. :D

This is #6 in my list, but #1 for this new year. It's one I just read this week and I kind of fell head over heels for it.

It's called Give Your Heart (a break)
Fandom: Glee
Pairing: Kurt/Sebastian
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Post TBU AU. Life moves on after heartbreak: Kurt knows that more than most. As he tries to put his life back together after Blaine, he finds an unexpected ally in his new coworker and Isabelle's nephew: Sebastian Smythe. As Kurt goes through his new life as a single man, he finds an unexpected depth to Sebastian and realizes that losing the first love of his life doesn't mean he'll never love again.

I started reading Glee fic a while back - it started with a crossover fic I'd read (Harry Potter/Glee) where I fell in love with Kurt Hummel all over again and needed more fic with him. When I stumbled my way around Glee fandom, trying to find fics that I love, I found a new guilty pleasure. That guilty pleasure?

Kurtbastian.

I love (adore) Klaine. My Glee cast playlist has all the Klaine songs right at the top. Come What May makes me cry every time I listen to it.

But Kurt/Sebastian, in fic? Love. (Love, love, love).

And this is my new favorite fic for the pairing. It might even stick as my favorite for a while - I know I'll be reading it again and again at least.

Here are some of the things that I love (love, love) about it:

- Kurt's voice. (That's a given, I'm sure). But really. The author has his voice down pat. He sounds so Kurt, his thoughts and actions and words are perfect. I like (adore) catty/sassy!Kurt, and this fic delivers just that, and more.

- While it is a bit Blaine-unfriendly, there is the acknowledgment that he and Kurt were best friends before they were boyfriends and there is no Blaine-bashing.

- Kurt and Sebastian's interactions. I'm a sucker for their back-and-forths. I think it's one of the main draws of this pairing for me, actually. Snark. Gotta love it.

- I don't know if it can be considered a slow burn, but the build up to Kurt and Sebastian getting together was perfect.

- Isabelle. I wish we could have seen more of her on the show. I love her and Kurt's relationship. Sure, he's just an intern but she really likes him and treats him so well (I maybe, kind of love, a lot, when people are awesome to Kurt and recognize how fabulous he is).

There is probably more I could say, because I really love this fic to pieces and can't wait to read it a second time (though I'm going to try and hold out for a couple weeks when it's not quite so fresh and I can experience the feels all over again). But I don't know how to put it to words. I just love everything about it.

And there will be more of these posts coming. I'm in the process of writing a list of at least 10 fics I'm going to post about, so that I don't have an excuse to stop again. :D
